Electronic computers are far beyond than biological computers. However, scientists from California and Israel have designed first advanced biological computer of the time from bio-molecules. It can extract and decode the hidden images on a DNA-chip – long string of nucleotides. The biological computer is very different from electronic computers but it is the only one of its own type. There is no comparison between the two computers.
Research professor Ehud Keinan said, “Our biological computing device is based on the 75-year-old design by the English mathematician, cryptanalyst, and computer scientist Alan Turing”.
Bio-molecular computer is created in a test tube consisting of a mixture of molecules and works on the same pattern as electronic computers do – hardware, software, input and output. Repeatable set of instructions on a helix of DNA acts like a software and biological computer is the hardware. Now the input is encoded DNA while decoded DNA appears at the output end.
The researcher Ehud Keinan said, “In contrast to electronic computers, there are computing machines in which all four components are nothing but molecules,” said lead researcher Keinan. For example, all biological systems and even entire living organisms are such computers. Every one of us is a biomolecular computer, a machine in which all four components are molecules that ‘talk’ to one another logically”.
