You might have heared about telemedicine and remote patient monitoring systems. There are a lot of projects out there in different countries with different names, that provide medical facilities to people in remote places ”Medecins Sans Frontieres, or MSF is working on the idea of “Doctors Without Borders”. MSF is working in about 60 countries and has recently started their relief efforts in Haiti. Here, is a video display of MSF organization set up named “plug and play” hospitals–self-sustained, inflatable medical facilities.
The whole 41 metric ton setup allows 9 tents housing 100 beds to be delivered by air, an inflatable facility that operates nearly autonomously from Haiti’s devastated infrastructure. Everything from generators to sterilization equipment comes along with the tents. You might have an idea of the desprate needs of people of Haiti, and like many others are not able to physically involve in relief efforts but you can put a supportive hand to aid workers (like MSF) in Haiti.
